About Chaargoush

In 2013, after years of working as an Architect, Visual Artist and Chocolatier,
Behnaz decided to go back to university, only this time to pursue a career in Ceramics and
Pottery.
From her very first encounters with clay and learning the techniques of hand-building, she was above all intrigued by the inevitable seams and creases that are an essential part of
slab work.
Instead of trying to hide them, she has been focusing on celebrating these cuts and folds and is constantly pushing this idea further in every new collection of vessels she makes. She focuses on designs that add a creative and playful twist to everyday items such as bowls and plates while maintaining a timeless and minimal aesthetic.

All of the pieces on display here are entirely handcrafted by me (Behnaz Sharifian) in Seattle, Washington.

From the initial design, to the first firing, glazing each piece, second firing to over 1200 degrees Celsius, and finally the careful packaging of each item, so much attention is given to make sure these ceramics bring with them all the beauties of their handmade nature while ensuring maximum quality to their new homes.

The main idea behind my pieces, is bridging the gap between decorative and functional ceramics. Simple alterations in the design of everyday kitchenware, can not only enhance their aesthetic and highlight what’s being served in them, but can also keep them outside of the cabinets when empty. They could now be a minimal decorative element in the house, and by placing a candle, an air plant, some sea shells or dried leaves, they easily find a new narrative.

All of the pieces are glazed on the interior with lead-free/ food safe glazing. Some matte glazes are not recommended to be used with food so please make sure to read the item descriptions.
